Our story
Through the years...
Sandy Golf Links traces its origins back to 1945–46, when a nine-hole public course designed by Vernon Morcom was established on land purchased by the Sandringham City Council from Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
In 1945, Council formally acquired the site and again commissioned Morcom to design a new nine-hole course, which opened the following year. Over the next decade, additional holes were added, and by 1951 the course had evolved into a full 18-hole public layout known as Sandringham Golf Course.
Between 2017 and 2019, the Victorian Government committed funding to transform the site into the Australian Golf Centre, reimagining its role as a shared national home for golf. As part of this vision, the course was completely redesigned in 2020 by Mike Cocking of OCM Golf.
The newly rebuilt “Sandy Golf Links” opened in 2021, delivering a world-class Sandbelt experience to the public—maintained by the elite team from Royal Melbourne and designed to be enjoyable for golfers of all abilities while remaining strategically compelling.
